It was a beautiful sunny day for the Under 13’s first hit out of the season against a polished Willoughby Roos.
The Roos scored early and often in the first half but the Brothers played bravely. A couple of dropped balls and errors cost us dearly, keeping us defending our goal line for most of the first half.
After some encouraging words from our coaches, the team came back rejuvenated and opened the scoring in the second half with a brilliant play. Max Pearson scored in the corner off a beautiful pass from Monty Douglass.
Overall, it was a tough day for the Brothers but not a bad effort for a team that has not played together. The scoreboard did not accurately reflect the effort our Brothers put in. There were some great bustling runs up the middle from Justin Barba, Hugo Boorman and Phoenix Hatton; excellent tackling from the Monty’s (Douglass and Hartman) and Miller Boyle; and some of our new Brothers got to show us what they’ve got!
When we had the ball in hand, there was some good distribution across the field and glimpses of what we can achieve together this year.
Thank you to our coaches Ben, Andrew and Grant.
